Glenn 'Micro' Hall joins Surfing NSW's talent identification camp at Maroubra
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 21 July, 2013 : - - Sydney - A handful of promising NSW junior surfers participated in Surfing NSW’s second Talent Identification Camp at Maroubra this weekend.
Under the watchful eyes of current ASP World Championship Tour competitor Glenn Hall and Surfing NSW State Coaching Director Blake Johnston, the participants ran through a variety of techniques, including contest strategies and event preparation.
Blake Johnston said: “Over the course of the weekend we looked to develop a structured environment where all participants could pinpoint their strengths as well as areas where they could improve. Often it’s hard to notice a lot of those aspects when you’re simply having a freesurf.”
“It was awesome to see all the kids down here having fun and trying to improve their own level of surfing,” said Glenn “Micro” Hall, who is currently not competing due to an injury sustained at the Volcom Fiji Pro. “A lot of these surfers have a promising future in the sport, so it’s great that camps like this are providing surfers with the ideal platform to take their surfing to the next tier.”
Over the camp, Blake and Glenn broke down video footage of the participants surfing, while surfers created journal entries on ways they could improve their repertoires and heat strategies. For some surfers, the Talent Identification Camp will serve as the perfect prelude to the 2013 Ohana NSW Junior State Surfing Titles, which is kicking off at Maroubra tomorrow.
Surfing NSW Talent Identification Camps are aimed to improve the standard of NSW surfing at a junior level and offer elite coaching while developing relationships between the surfers and coaches within the Surfing NSW network.
Through these clinics, Surfing NSW will be able to identify junior talent to help with the selection process for Surfing Australia HPC Camps, Elite State Camps and Team NSW selection for 2014.
The dates for the 2013 camps are:
- South Coast, Lake Tabourie - 1 June to 2 June.
- Sydney, Maroubra - 20 July to 21 July.
- Central Coast - Mid-North Coast, Newcastle - 17 August to 18 August.
- North Coast, Coffs Harbour - 17 August to 18 August.
