Duo team on new virtual reality platform, Jump's, first super-camera

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 29 May, 2015 - San Mateo, California - Today reports that Google and California-based camera and media company GoPro have teamed up on Google's new virtual reality platform, Jump. The two companies are working to release Jump's first product, a 360-degree "super-camera" from GoPro called "Array."

The new camera was built by GoPro, and features 16 cameras. Each of the 16 cameras records simultaneously into one file. Google worked with GoPro on the rendering technology, making it possible for 3-D videos to be hosted on YouTube.

According to Recode, "integrating VR into YouTube makes some sense — the signs were there, if you read closely. With a looming tidal wave of virtual reality headsets, Google and its competitors will want to drive adoption with strong, unique content to stand out."
