HIC/Quiksilver All-Military Surf Classic

White Plains Beach, Barber's Point Oahu
7 - 8 June 2014

U.S. troops turnout for 8th annual event at White Plains Beach

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 13 June, 2014 - The eighth annual All-Military Surf Classic, Presented by HIC, Quiksilver and MWR brought active US Military and Department of Defense personnel, retirees, and their families together for a day of sun, surf and competition this past Saturday, June 7th. The event was held at White Plains Beach which is located on the former Barber's Point Naval Air Base in Kalaeloa, Hi, on Oahu’s south-west shore. Although small surf and strong winds created challenging conditions throughout the event, the level of stoke amongst the competitors and fans couldn’t have been greater.

This long- running event is the brain child and labor of love of Marvin Nuestro and the White Plains Lifeguard staff, who first ran the contest without sponsorship before it was picked up by HIC and Quiksilver in 2007. It has since become an annual highlight for Hawaii’s military surfers and the tight-knit, family oriented surf community that frequents White Plains Beach.

Over one hundred surfers competed in fourteen different divisions, including Open and Active Duty categories for shortboard and longboard surfing. The US Army claimed the coveted “Top Branch” award this year, with an unusually high level of representation amongst the division finalists. The top three scores from all Active Duty final heats are combined to determine which branch (Army, Navy Air Force, Marines or Coast Guard) will claim the Top Branch Tiki Trophy and bragging rights for the next year.

The All-Military Surf Classic is made possible by the support of MWR-Hawaii whose mission it is to improve the lives of US Military Personnel and their families. A special mahalo to these sponsors who provided prizes to all finalist: Surfboard Factory Outlet, Billabong, Go Pole, Solarez, OAM, Bubble Gum, Kreed & Crush Sunglasses, MS Science Bodyboards, Ocean Minded, Skull Candy, Surf Co., Team Chow The Pickle, Vertra, Vissla, Volcom and of course Quiksilver and Roxy.

Hawaiian Island Creations and Quiksilver are honored to support the men and women of the US Armed Forces who proudly serve our country.  Stay safe, keep surfing and enjoy the ride…
