Video Updates

Video contest is open to surfers in Western Australia, Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 26 May, 2017 -  In one week entries will officially open for the Health Insurance Fund of Australia (HIF) Clip of the Season, an initiative that supports grassroots surfing across the country.

The Clip of the Season will be open to surfers in Western Australia, Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland across surfing, longboarding, bodyboarding and stand up paddle boarding. Entrants are required to submit a short clip of a wave being ridden at some time during the 2017 winter season.

At the end of the winter period, the top two entries as selected by state judging panels will progress to a national final, with the overall winner and runner up to be decided by a public vote. The national competition prize pool totals $8,000, an attractive driver for both aspiring and established surfers and filmers funding their passion for surfing.

HIF are supporting WA surfers via the HIF Water Safety Team, patrolling nearly 20 Surfing WA events up and down the coast throughout the year. This competition provides another avenue for HIF to directly promote and encourage participation in the sport and invest directly into the community.

Last year WA surfer Josh Cattlin (Yallingup) and filmer Belinda Le Grice (City Beach) took out the national final. On entering the event this year, Le Grice encouraged others to get behind the lens.

"You've got nothing to lose except maybe some time out of the water videoing someone else, but I find it pretty fun watching friends and family surf, especially with some of the great waves we have here in WA."

"Get in the sun, relax and shoot some footage…. You never know what you’re going to end up with," said Le Grice. "You just need a good, long lasting battery!"
