Champions to be Decided in Final Round of HIF Pro Am

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 18 June, 2014 - Rottnest Island, Perth, Western Australia - The third and final round of the HIF Pro Am Series presented by SunSmart will decide the 2014 WA State Champions in wild and wooly conditions on Rottnest Island  this weekend. A cold front that hit the metro area yesterday bringing storms and wild weather looks to continue into the weekend, however hasn't deterred competitors from making the trip across rough seas to Rottnest in hopes of taking home a State Title.

Current U21 Pro Junior ratings leader James Fleming (Geraldton) impressed on home turf last month in Round 2 and will be looking for a win this weekend to keep Josh Burke (Margaret River) and Harry McPherson (Mandurah) from stealing the title from him.  Fleming will also be looking to improve on his current fourth place ranking in the Open Men's division with the absence of second and third place holders Jake Paterson (Yallingup) and Tom Innes (Margaret River).

Super coach Claire Bevilacqua (Yallingup) and current ratings leader Bailee Hastie (Margaret River) will be going head-to-head, vying for the top spot in the Open Women's.  A win for either of them will see them take home the State Title.

With Shaun Howe (Kalbarri)  and Adrian Shepherd (Albany) the only decided State Champions (Open Men's and O'50's) all other divisions in contention are still wide open. Despite the forecast, Surfing WA Events Manager Justin Majeks is still excited to be heading over to Rottnest Island.

“The feeling of adventure is really alive when we head over to Rottnest. The ferry trip, the scenery, the waves and even the wildlife sets this event apart from all others. “It looks like we could be in for a bit of a ‘wild west’ weekend with some strong winds and a building swell, so we'll see how the competitors handle it and see who becomes our new 2014 WA State Champions”

Round 3 of the HIF Pro Am Series presented by SunSmart will take place at one of the metro area's best waves, Strickland Bay on Rottnest Island. Proudly supported by the Health Insurance Fund of  Australia (HIF), SunSmart, Otis Eyewear, Creatures of Leisure, West Coast Suspension, Be the Influence and 3D Fins
