HIF WA State Team will field a team of 36

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 27 July, 2014 - Perth/WA - The Health Insurance Fund of Australia (HIF) WA State Surfing Teams are set to head off to Coffs Harbour, NSW next week for the 2014 Australian Surf Festival kicking off on August 1. The festival, which runs from the 1st to the 18th August will incorporate the Australian Longboard Titles, Australian Surfmasters Titles, Australian Logger Titles and Australian Single Fin Titles.

The HIF WA State Team will field a team of 36, all looking to continue their stellar form that has been showcased throughout the year at some of WA’s best surf locations as part of the HIF Pro Am Series presented by SunSmart and HIF Longboard Series presented by SunSmart.
Thanks to Surfing WA’s long-time partners HIF who are sponsors of the WA state longboard, shortboard and SUP series, the open men’s and open women’s champions from both the HIF Pro Am Series and HIF Longboard Series will have their costs covered to attend the Australian Surf Festival and represent WA.
Shaun Howe (Geraldton) and Bailee Hastie (Gracetown) for the shortboard and Justin Redman (Dunsborough) and Georgia Young (Swanbourne) for the Longboard are all extremely grateful for HIF’s support to get them over to the east coast to compete.
Defending 2012 and 2013 National Open Women’s Longboard Champion, Georgia Young, has had a string of successes already this year, taking out the Whalebone Classic and finishing second on the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) Australasian Longboard Rankings, looking to add a third National Title to her mantle.
"I'm really pumped to take out another Australian title this year.  Being the defending champ, winning a third title back-to-back would be unreal. "I'm so grateful to HIF for assisting me to get over to Coffs Harbour this year, their support of me and their general support of longboarding in WA has been amazing."
Geraldton’s Shaun Howe made a big impact in his ‘comeback year’ on the HIF Pro Am Series, taking out his first State Open Title with some impressive surfing across the WA coast.  The 24 year old has a host of State Junior Titles under his belt from 2003 to 2008 and can now proudly claim to be State Open Champion.
"I'm pretty appreciative that HIF are covering my costs of going over to Coffs, it's helped me out a lot as I probably wouldn't have been able to go without their support.
“The Pro Am Series was held at some epic locations across the state, the waves were really good and the conditions suited my style of surfing so I was lucky enough to take out the State Champion Title which is something I've wanted to do since I last won the Junior Title a few years ago."
HIF have been a huge supporter of surfing in Western Australia and wish the HIF WA State Team the best of luck at the National Titles. “HIF is committed to supporting healthy lifestyles through our ongoing support of the growing surfing community in Australia,” said HIF Managing Director Graeme Gibson.
“We’ve partnered with Surfing WA for over 5 years in the Longboard (including SUP’s) and Pro Am shortboard series where competition events are held at some of Western Australia’s most challenging and beautiful locations such as Denmark, Margaret River, Yallingup Rottnest Island and Geraldton.
“We’ve proudly supported some of our state’s best surfers at the National Titles and more recently we’ve extended our support to the other state surfing branches in Australia.”
