Miss Reef is regarded as the epitome of the surfing lifestyle, a surf icon for all others to respect and idolise, as reflected in the brand Reef itself which is regarded as the elite surf style brand of footwear. The search for Miss Reef makes international news and surfing headlines as countries around the world select their most iconic surf girl to represent, not just the brand, the whole surf culture. But this is no bikini contest.
For the right girl, sultry, sporty and smart, Miss Reef is a competition that highlights all those qualities as well as stunning surf looks and enables the winner to enjoy unequalled recognition in return. In August 2003, the first Miss Reef UK was crowned and now the search for the highly prized role of successor begins.
In the year since 20 year-old divemaster Holly Mason won, her Miss Reef UK title has created a wealth of opportunities for this live-for the-minute girl. Injected with a massive confidence boost from her title and elite status, Holly is now pursuing a modelling career, focussing her ambitions on surfing brands, which echo her own passion for watersports. For Reef this has meant fronting a national poster campaign, attending national trade shows and a retail tour to represent the brand, its products and to meet the public.
It has been a thrilling year, winning Miss Reef UK has opened a lot of doors to me, comments Holly, It gave me a real kick-start with my career and confidence.
Miss Reef UK is a national event and will be attracting entrants from around the country. Holly, although born in London, Holly was raised in Cornwall from the age of 3, with the beach life a huge influence as it is with many international Miss Reefs. An avid diver and diving instructor Holly has travelled the globe, with her passion for diving taking her as far as Thailand, and Australia. But she still rates highly the breaks back home in Cornwall where she is currently joining the new wave of girl surfers in the water.
Holly Mason hands over her coveted title on July 18th at Fistral Beach, Newquay, where 20 stunning finalists will be competing for Miss Reef UK 2004. This year, a new girl will become the ultimate surf icon and enjoy all that offers, including a year of footwear and footcare by Reef and being flown to outstanding travel hotspot Brazil by top watersports holiday company PureVacations.com. Reef are promoting the competition nationally through retail outlets and Extreme Sports Television are currently running an on air search for one lucky finalist. They will be filming the whole event, which takes place as part of superb surf festival, the Animal Beach Ball.
And from the current Miss Reef UK, the advice to her successor is, make the most of it a year goes pretty quick when youre having fun!
