Body Glove partners with McNamara and Cousteau for coastal cleanup
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 17 September, 2014- Body Glove SURGE announces partnership with Garrett McNamara and Jean-Michel Cousteau and his nonprofit, Ocean Futures Society, to clean up Florida beaches and promote environmental responsibility for National Coastal Cleanup Day on September 20, 2014. The beach cleanup event will be hosted at hundreds of sites at highly populated Florida beach counties including Broward, Escambia, Hillsborough, Volusia and Palm Beach.
“I have dedicated my life’s work to communicate to people of all nations and generations my love and concern for our planet,” said Cousteau, world-renowned conservationist. “Our oceans today are under siege and local involvement is critical if we are to reverse this trend. Florida, with the second largest coastline in the United States, is a natural leader for this effort.”
At the event, Body Glove SURGE will provide product samples for all volunteers, as well as raffling off gift cards for Body Glove products. Sponsorship of this event is part of Body Glove SURGE’s ongoing commitment to environmental issues and education of proper disposal of recyclables.
“The ocean is my second home and I am thrilled that Body Glove SURGE has taken the lead in sponsoring this vital cause”, said Garrett McNamara, Guinness Record Holder for the largest wave ever ridden. “This event will raise awareness on the importance of protecting our waters.”
In 2013 alone, 648,015 volunteers in 92 countries picked up more than 12.3 million pounds of trash at the International Coastal Cleanup. This year, the event organizers expect to surpass these impressive figures.
“By bringing together the surfing community, environmental groups and volunteers in Florida, we believe this event will make a powerful impact on the Florida ecosystem,” said Dr. Robert Portman, chairman of PacificHealth Laboratories, the makers of Body Glove SURGE.
