Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 15 February, 2012 : - - Hi from the sunny Gold Coast. The Breaka Burleigh Pro was won last weekend by Julian Wilson, 2011 ASP Rookie of the Year in front of a huge crowd, reminiscent of Burleigh in its 1980s Stubbies heyday. Julian pulled out a frontside slob air to keep Josh Kerr in second spot with fellow Top 34 surfers Mick Fanning and Bede Durbidge in 3rd and 4th respectively.
Nearly a third of the 2012 Top 34 entered the 4 star Breaka Burleigh Pro, using it as a warm up to the Quiksilver Pro which starts at Snapper Rocks late next week. ASP World Championship Tour rookie Kolohe Andino set the pace for most of the contest with some spectacular surfing but fell in the quarters after failing to deal with tricky conditions along the Burleigh rock break.
Ill be in Sydney for the Australian Open of Surfing at Manly and the Australian Surfing Hall of Fame Awards where I have two of my images in the top 20 finalists for the 2012 Nikon Surf Photo of the Year.
