Under-20s Steal the Show at Swatch Girls Pro France

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 21 August, 2014 - Plage des Bourdaines, Seignosse - Surfers in both the 6-Star and Pro Junior competitions of the Swatch Girls Pro France made the most of a dwindling swell today, with the sports biggest names and future stars putting on a show for the huge crowds.

"I am thrilled to get through a tough day," said Coco Ho (HAW) after her Round 4 win. "It looks like the waves will be better over the weekend, so I hope I can open up and surf to my abilities because I really want to be in that final."

With the waves forecast to drop even more, Ho is now looking to enjoy some down time with her boyfriend (2014 Winter Olympics snowboard bronze medallist) Mark McMorris. "It's Mark's first time here to this part of France so it will be great to show him around," said Ho. "It's a chance to soak up some sun and look at this incredible part of the coast with a new pair of eyes."

Current ASP Women’s Qualifying Series ratings leader Silvana Lima (BRA) also progressed to the Round of 12, surfing with power and purpose. "My body is feeling great, my mind is really strong and right now I am at 100 per cent," said Lima. "I can't wait to get back to the World Championship Tour in 2015 and just smash it."

16-year-old Hawaiian Mahina Maede, who defeated local hope Lee-Anne Curren (FRA) and Quincy Davis (HAW) to win her Round 4 heat, achieved the biggest upset of the day. "Being in France is a new experience for me," said Maede. "I love to enjoy new experiences and make new stories, but to beat some of these incredible surfers today was way beyond my expectations."

In the Pro Junior category, Australia's Holley-Sue Coffey was the standout performer, winning both her heats and keeping up the form that has also seen her through to the Round of 12 in the main event.

"I am taking both events seriously," said Coffey. "I want to go as far as I can in both. I've been training so hard and so to see some results is really satisfying."
