2015 Sunshine Coast Pro comes to an end in clean surf

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 10 May, 2015 - Sunshine Coast, Queensland - In a stellar performance an in-form Kai Hing claimed victory in the 2015 Sunshine Coast Pro tackling Nick Vasicek  and taking home bragging rights for event two of the three-event Queensland Championship Circuit series.

In a runaway final Sunshine Coast local, Hing scored a near perfect 9.7 out of possible 10 point ride (17.70 out of possible 20 points) to best Nick Vasicek (Coolangatta, QLD - 14.76), Tim Macdonald (Tugun, QLD – 14.13) and Jordin Watson (Tugun, QLD – 10.97)respectively.

Clean 1-2m of swell, a predominant offshore wind and some of Queensland’s best surfers set the stage for a great event at Coolum Beach on the Sunshine Coast.

For the win Hing takes home his share of the $1,000 prize purse and valuable overall QCC ratings points. Vasicek, who finished second and is the current QCC ratings leader, is in a strong position leading into the final event to be held at Kirra on the Gold Coast later this month, the MP Classic.

“The QCC series is a great event and a gateway into the Quiksilver Pro Trials which is a very big deal for me. It is a chance to surf against the younger generation and to see where I stand and take the confidence through to the bigger events throughout the year,” said Nick Vasicek.

“Everyone is surfing on such a high level that is makes you want to go away and focus on your surfing so you are ready for the remainder of the events throughout the year,” Vasicek continued.

Based on competitors’ best three-of-three results, the series’ top two athletes will once again get the chance to compete against the world’s best surfers at the 2016 WSL World Championship Tour Quiksilver Pro Trials, Snapper Rocks.
