Brazil celebrates Kai Lenny's double wins

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 22 April, 2014 - After Zane Schweitzer's (Starboard) breakout performance in 2013 at the Abu Dhabi All Stars, taking the overall title and being the first name to be inscribed on a Golden Dhow, Kai Lenny (Naish) makes his first trip to the UAE to not only win the Surfing World Tour Stop at Wadi Adventure, but also the Racing World Series stop in Yas Marina.

This double win for Kai Lenny (Naish) gives him the overall Title of 2014 Abu Dhabi All Star and etches his name in history and on the beautiful golden Dhow, held for perpetuity at the Abu Dhabi Sailing and Yacht Club on the Corniche: a prestigious award and a dominant performance from the 3x World Surfing and 2x World Racing Champion, who showed grace under pressure to come out on top.

Coming in second in the overall ratings for the Abu Dhabi All Stars was Mo Freitas (Focus SUP), with an impressive 3rd place in the Surfing World Tour at Wadi Adventure and a 4th place overall in the Racing at Yas Marina.

Mo was driving some of the most committed turns in the Surfing and was a dominant force in the racing, making him a serious double threat. At still just 16 years old, Mo Freitas has a phenomenal future ahead of him.

In 3rd place, Zane Schweitzer (Starboard) once again made the podium with a 5th place in the Surfing and a 3rd place in the Racing. Just falling short against fellow team mate Sean Poynter (Starboard) in the Surfing, Zane put on a stellar performance in the Racing, finishing in 3rd in the Long distance and 2nd in the sprints, placing him in 3rd overall for the Racing.

Zane's well rounded abilities and performances will certainly stand him in good stead through the 2014 season as he has shown himself capable of beating the best of the best in both disciplines.

Izzi Gomez (Starboard) tries her hand at racing at the Abu Dhabi All Stars Grand Slam with great success, making it all the way to the finals in the sprint racing to finish in a very worthy 5th place, and posting a 7th place in the Long distance to put her at an astonishing 6th place overall.

This combined with her dramatic victory at Wadi Adventure Park secures the well deserved Abu Dhabi All Star Title for this young Champion from Florida.

With 4 victories out of 7 on the Surfing World Tour and now showing great promise in the Racing, there is no doubt that Izzi will continue to be one of the most talented athletes in the sport of Stand Up Paddling for years to come.

In second place in the overall at the Abu Dhabi All Stars was the ever consistent Olivia Piana (Fanatic) from France. Finishing in 5th place in the Surfing and then posting a 3rd place in the Racing, Olivia backed up her 2013 All Star Title with another strong finish in the UAE.

As one of Europe's leading Racers, Olivia is increasingly asserting herself in the surfing discipline as well, as we watch her make her presence felt in the sport of SUP.

Another newcomer to the Racing discipline but showing great promise was Aline Adisaka (New Advance) from Brazil, who finished in an impressive 3rd place overall in the surfing, and then put on a strong performance in the sprint racing to finish in 10th place overall in the Racing.

These two results combined propels her to 3rd place overall at the Abu Dhabi All Stars, as this talent from Brazil continues to go from strength to strength.

The last day of action at the Abu Dhabi All Stars Grand Slam saw resident UAE riders pick celebrity paddlers' names out of a hat to create teams for a unique relay format.

WIth 3 person teams the order of the day, featuring 2 men and one woman, the All Stars banded together with local paddlers for one of the most entertaining showdowns of the event.

In the end, it was Casper Steinfath (Naish), Matty Schweitzer (Starboard) and Jen Scully's (Naish) Team that stormed to victory, with Casper sporting his trademark helmut to instill fear amongst his competitors!

It was a fun filled close to a great event here at the Abu Dhabi All Stars, as the World's best head home and work has already begun on an even bigger edition of this flagship event for both the Stand Up World Tour and Series.
