West Australian talent gets shot at winning some coin

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 21 March, 2014 - WA’s premier amateur surf event the Kailis’ King of the Point will be taking over Trigg Point on the ANZAC long weekend, Friday April 25th to Sunday April 27th. Boasting a prize purse of five thousand dollars straight to the winner and plenty more cash and prizes up for grabs, a strong field of surfers from across the state are guaranteed to be yet again making their way to the point in hopes of taking home the coveted crown.

The event, which made a triumphant return to the Surfing WA events calendar last year has been able to continue in 2014 thanks to strong support from the City of Stirling, Kailis’, Rusty and a host of other partners.

“Surfing WA is excited to again collaborate with some great partners on this iconic and much loved event. We had a phenomenal rebirth of the event last year after a long hiatus, and have some exciting plans in place for 2014,” said Surfing WA Events Manager, Justin Majeks.

Director of Kailis’ Beach Café, George Kailis is looking forward to the continuation of the event. “We are very excited about this year’s event, within a year of being re-established, Kailis’ King of the Point has become the state’s premier local surfing event and has attracted an enormous amount of attention. It’s great to have a major event back at Trigg beach, the community response has been very positive”.

Last year’s winner Jake Paterson, who added the King of the Point crown to a number of wins in state events in 2013 is also looking forward to the event’s return. "As a kid growing up in Cottesloe, the King of the Point was one of the biggest events of the year.  I’m so stoked that it’s back on the Surfing WA calendar, and with the $5k prize money again this year I’m sure it’s going to be a great field of surfers… Looking forward to defending my title!”

A full three day schedule of events will be taking place alongside the surfing itself, featuring live art, live music from DJ Adam Bennets and the Red Engine Caves, Star ping pong tournaments, a mechanical surfboard, daily Nova Cassanova giveaways, a 3-D Fins and Posca ‘Design a Fin’ competition and more.

The City of Stirling have been key in promoting this youth-focused event format. “The City of Stirling is once again proud to be supporting such an iconic event on the WA local surfing calendar, the Kailis’ King of the Point 2014.

“This all-inclusive event at Trigg beach has a range of categories to suit the pro to the juniors.  The City’s contribution will help support land-based activities and entertainment at the competition as well as shuttle bus transport from Scarborough to Trigg for participants and spectators.  I wish all contestants the best of luck for the competition and urge everyone to come down on the ANZAC Day long weekend and check out the action for themselves”

WA brand Rusty will be providing some of the entertainment throughout the weekend and Team Rider Jay Davies will be in the mix to compete for the crown.

“The King of The Point history runs deep and is one of the most prestigious amateur events in WA.  Rusty being a West Australian based company is stoked to be on board for the 2014 event alongside Kailis, another successful WA business.  Rusty wishes all the competitors good luck chasing the Kings crown.”

The 2014 Kailis’ King of the Point presented by the City of Stirling is proudly supported by Rusty, Mount Franklin, West Coast Suspension, Creatures of Leisure, Otis Eyewear, Star Surf & Skate, 3D Fins, SunSmart, POSCA and Surfing Western Australia.
