University of Waikato opens up surfing social conference

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 25 January, 2016 - A new three day University of Waikato conference will include presentations about contemporary surfing culture from international researchers, a film evening and a ‘Surfing for Social Good’ Community Day.

Themes include; history, race, mobility, sex, gender, tourism, the Olympics, post-colonisation, environment and localism. The core principles for the hui are to connect, explore ideas, collaborate and act. The Surfing for Social Good movement seeks to shift social interactions from competition to collaboration. 

Registering for the conference automatically includes you in Thursday’s film screening, ‘Out in the Line-up’, and Friday’s Community Day, ‘Surfing for Social Good’.

Date: 10-12 February 2016

Cost: NZ$403 (inc. GST) standard registration. 

Venue: SOLSCAPE 611 Wainui Rd, Whaingaroa, Raglan
