Kiwi Paddler Annabel Anderson Claims Back-to-back Battle of the Paddle Events
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 2 October, 2013 : - - New Zealand Paddle boarder Annabel Anderson (Wanaka) has claimed back-to-back titles at the Battle of the Paddle held in California, USA this week. Anderson won both the sprint race (5.6km) and distance race (15.3km) at the event replicating her outstanding performances from 2012.
The Battle of the Paddle is widely regarded as the pinnacle paddleboarding event attracting hundreds of competitors from around the world. Anderson won the final of the sprint race 33 seconds clear of Jenny Kalmbach (HAW). In the long distance race she won the final in a time of 1:43:36 hours – 3:26 minutes clear of Karla Gilbert from Australia.
The results come on the back of Anderson winning two gongs at the recent International Stand Up Paddleboard Awards held at San Clemente, USA. Anderson took home the award for Number One Female as voted on by public and peers throughout the world. She also claimed Female Performance of the Year.
Anderson has one further international event later this month in Hawaii where she will hope to take home further gold. The final leg of the Stand Up World Series takes place at Turtle Bay on the 11th October. Anderson has won five of the eight legs of the series this year for a near unassailable lead on the rankings.
