Swell forecast to build in next few days
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 16 April, 2014 - Bells Beach - The Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach, Stop No. 3 on the 2014 Samsung Galaxy ASP World Championship Tour, is on Standby. A lay day has been called today and the next call is at 6:30 a.m. local time (AEST) on Friday, April 18. Coastalwatch is forecasting the swell to build in on Friday and Saturday out of the west southwest.
A slow building trend in WSW groundswell commences at low levels on Thursday and picks up to stronger 3 to 4ft at Bells Beach by Friday morning. A significantly larger round of long period WSW groundswell fills in on Saturday, peaking in the 6 to 8ft range at Bells as early SW winds ease and tend W during the day. The tail end of this pulse maintains large, clean surf on Sunday under lighter WNW winds and this is reinforced by another strong, albeit smaller pulse of WSW groundswell on Monday 21st and Tuesday 22nd April.
Thursday 17th April:
SWELL: New, small SW groundswell fills in during the day. SURF: Inconsistent sets around 2ft at Bells Beach early, bumping up to 2 – 3ft during the late afternoon. WIND: Early light WNW tending light and variable ahead of SE sea-breezes 5 to 10 knots during the afternoon. TIDE: Low: 0.36m @ 6.57am. High: 1.59m @ 1.45pm. Low: 0.62m @ 7.26pm.
Friday 18th April:
SWELL: SW groundswell peaks early. SURF: 3 – 4ft at Bells Beach early, bumping up to 3 – 4ft+ during the afternoon. WIND: Early WNW 5 to 15 knots tending SW 15 to 25 knots during the morning. TIDE: Low: 0.29m @ 7.35am. High: 1.66m @ 2.28pm. Low 0.59m @ 8.05pm.
Saturday 19th April:
SWELL: New, long period SW groundswell fills in. SURF: Inconsistent sets to 5 - 6ft+ at Bells Beach early, rising to 6 – 8ft during the day and holding this size throughout the afternoon before easing later. WIND: Early SW 10 to 15 knots tending WSW and easing during the day, tending W into the afternoon. TIDE: Low: 0.24m @ 8.15am. High: 1.69m @ 3.09pm. Low: 0.57m @ 8.45pm.
Sunday 20th April
SWELL: Easing long period SW groundswell. SURF: 5 – 8ft at Bells Beach early, easing to 4 – 6ft during the day. WIND: WNW 10 to 20 knots tending W later. TIDE: High: 1.5m @ 3.00am. Low: 0.22m @8.55am. High: 1.69m @ 9.25pm.
Monday 21st March
SWELL: New, long period SW groundswell SURF: 5 – 6ft+ at Bells Beach. WIND: Light NW 10 to 15 knots, strengthening during the day. TIDE: High: 1.5m @ 3.41am. Low: 0.22m @ 9.36am. High: 1.66m @ 4.30pm.

SWELL. Mid period SW groundswell. SURF: 3 – 4ft+ at Bells Beach. WIND: Early W 15 to 20 knots tending WSW during the morning and SW late. TIDE: Low: 0.54m @ 5.32am. High: 1.39m @ 12.12pm. Low: 0.69m @6.00pm.
Wednesday 23rd April:
SWELL: Leftover SW groundswell. SURF: 3 – 4ft at Bells Beach, easing during the afternoon. WIND: Early light WNW tending light and variable, then ENE 5 to 10 knots during the afternoon. TIDE: : 1.44m @ 5.08am. Low: 0.31m @ 11.02am. High: 1.55m @ 6.00pm.
