Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 24 August, 2015 - More than 360 young surfers will hit the waves on Sydney’s Northern Beaches when Barton Lynch’s 10th annual Hurley BL Blast Off presented by Beecraft surf festival kicks off next month.

Staged across four days from Monday September 21 till Thursday September 24, the hugely popular event will be staged at Whale Beach, Avalon and Palm Beach – with the daily location determined by surf conditions. Going mobile with the venues adds fun and a sense of anticipation for the young surfers.

The Hurley BL Blast Off surf festival marks the first day of the spring school holidays - and with even more reason to celebrate this year, the much loved event turns 10!
Event founder/ director, and former World Champion Barton Lynch says, “It is with great pride that we go into production on the 10th anniversary edition of the Blast Off, it was and still is a one of a kind and its success has been based on its differences to every other event.

The fact that it is more about coaching and improvement than winning and losing, the fact that it brings so many families together from all around the country for 4 days of fun and festivities, and attracts the largest field of any kids surfing event in the world.

Many have tried to copy but none have been able to reproduce the atmosphere that Blast Off is known for, and that’s because of the amazing crew that work the event and put their heart and soul into making it the best.

"Thanks to everyone for doing their part to make Blast Off great.”

Kids 14 years and under (with some surf experience) will take part in the jam-packed four-day surfing festival full of activities, games, competition and coaching.   Many of Australia’s Surfing greats such as Layne Beachley, Tom Carroll, Rabbit Bartholomew, Damien Hardman, Laura Enever, Harley Ingleby and Terry Richardson – as well as Barton Lynch, all attend the event to support and encourage the participating kids.
The event features a unique format that focuses on coaching and performance improvement rather than wave scores. In the spirit of improvement and enjoyment, all kids are offered advice and coaching no matter their age, experience or their placement in a heat in a supportive and fun environment.

With a record number of 360 spots available the event is filling fast the Hurley BL Blast Off is the largest single grommet event in Australia, and also includes a free welcome BBQ presented by Hurley and Electric California, Blast Off Idol presented by GoPro (at Palm Beach RSL on Tuesday 22 September), regular skateboard trick competitions and The Keenest Groms awards, a traditional smoking ceremony and acknowledgement of respect to our indigenous peoples on tuesday morning.
