Costa Rica slips on day 5 | Español

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 11 April, 2014 - In the hardest day of competition for the Costa Rican national team, the U18 competitor and event favorite, Noe Mar McGonagle was eliminated.

The fifth day of the eight-day event saw the participation of five Costa Rican competitors. The fallen include U18 Artavia Martin, Manuel Noe Mar McGonagle and Mesén and U16, Malakai Martinez and Emily Gussoni, who again were victims of irregular waves that prevailed during these early days of the championship in La FAE beach.

Costa Rica has hope in one rising star by the name of Leilani McGonagle, who yesterday qualified for the semifinals of the event into two categories. This is historical for a team that is now up by 100 percent performance thanks to a 14 year old surfer.

Today began with Costa Rica in 11th place after the individual progress yesterday in day four. By the afternoon Costa Rica dropped to 13th place among 32 teams, but it could go up if Leilani makes its way to the final.
