Save The Waves honors Mark Massara at second annual fundraising event May 22

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 24 April, 2008 : - - San Francisco -- Save The Waves Coalition, an environmental coalition dedicated to preserving the world's surf spots and their surrounding environments, today announced its second annual 'Life Is A Wave' benefit in San Francisco, California.

The May 22 event is an awe-inspiring night, celebrating coastal environmentalism through music, art, film and community at 111 Minna Gallery in downtown San Francisco. Long-time San Francisco resident and coastal advocate, Mark Massara, will be honored at the event for his tireless work to protect the California coast.

Mark Massara earned an early reputation in the surfing and environmental communities when, as an attorney for the Surfrider Foundation in 1991, he won a lawsuit against two pulp-mill companies near Eureka, California. He has since become one of the most prominent environmental lawyers in the US, and a strong advocate for coastal conservation.

He founded Surfers Environmental Alliance and the National Association of Surfing Attorneys Mark Massara currently serves on Save The Waves’ Advisory Board and as director of the Sierra Club's California Coastal Campaign.

In addition to a very special musical guest, “Life is A Wave” 2008 festivities will feature the sounds of “Guns For San Sebastian” and “The Dung Beetles,” along with two of San Francisco's favorite DJs, “DJ Aaron Pope” and “DJ Paul”.

Following in the footsteps of last year’s successful bash, “Life is A Wave” 2008 will feature a silent auction and raffle boasting limited edition items including original art, custom surfboards, prints and a bevy of surf related gear. As of April 24, title sponsors of this year’s “Life Is A Wave” include Patagonia Inc., Clif Bar, Zola Acaí, Mavericks Surf Ventures, Surfline, New Leaf Paper, and Joie De Vivre Hotels.
