Under 18 divisions see Aaron Kelly and Sophie McCulloch take charge

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 10 August, 2015 - Sunshine Coast, Queensland - The Queensland State Junior Titles recommenced at Coolum Beach on the Sunshine Coast today, with an increasing southerly swell providing fantastic conditions for day two of competition.

Local knowledge certainly paid off as the finals hit the water late in the afternoon, with Sunshine Coast surfers dominating the finals.

In the blue-ribbon Under 18 divisions it was Aaron Kelly (Sunshine Beach, QLD) and Sophie McCulloch (Moffat, QLD) who will take the ratings lead into the second event of the two-event series as they vie for their shot at the Quiksilver and Roxy Pro Trials wildcard.

The Under 16s boys and girls divisions put on a scintillating display of surfing earlier in the day with Caloundra’s Luke Glover only just edging out Coolangatta’s Dextar Muskens in a seesawing boys final. Meanwhile Amber Dodds (Sunshine Beach, QLD) did the honours in the girls final, besting Piper Harrison (Coolangatta, QLD), Pacha Luque-Light (Tugun, QLD) and Anna Toohey (Dicky Beach, QLD) respectively.

The wave height to surfer ratio increased dramatically as the Under 14 divisions hit the water as Burleigh Heads’ Josh Grange chalked up the only win for the Coast, while Zahli Kelly (Wooloowin, QLD) made light work of her Under 14 Girls final.

The State’s best juniors will now head to the Gold Coast later this year to battle it out at the second and final event of the Queensland State Junior Titles Series where State Junior Champions will be crowned and Queensland State Team selected.

The coveted competition will also see the junior surfers compete for two wildcards into the World Surf League (WSL) World Tour's 2016 Quiksilver and Roxy Pro's trials. Queensland's Under 18 Male and Female State Champions will each receive a wildcard to surf in the trials event, potentially competing against the world's best professional surfers at the 2016 Quiksilver and Roxy Pro trials at Snapper Rocks.

As added value Jolyn Australia will be giving away some epic prizes to some very lucky female junior surfers. Jolyn Australia will be supporting both the Queensland Junior Titles events which will commence on 8-9th August with the first of two event series being held on the Sunshine Coast. The second event will be held on the Gold Coast September 12-13th.

Open to Queensland residents in the categories of Under 14, 16 and 18 boys and girls, competitors are encouraged to register before 6th August to secure their position in the competition.

The 2015 Queensland State Junior Title Series is proudly supported by, HIF, Coastalwatch Plus, Australian Skin Cancer Clinics, World Surfaris, the Queensland Government and Surfing Queensland.

Competitors and spectators can call the Surfing Queensland Event Hotline after 6:30am each morning of competition for a confirmed start time and location Ph# (07) 30306388
