Clean two-foot waves at Turners Beach for NSW best loggers
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 30 May, 2016 - The Open Longboard divisions got their opportunity to shine in clean two-foot waves at Turners Beach as the HIF Yamba Surfing Festival took a change of pace for day three of competition.
Former World Champion Harley Ingleby (Emerald Beach) put on the same display of power, speed and flow that earned him two world titles. Ingleby posted two heat totals in excess of 15.00 points (out of a possible 20 points) to cement his position in the quarterfinals where he’ll face off with Ben Dickens (Lennox Head).
Aaron Howe (Woolgoolga) and Grant Ferguson (Long Jetty) caused one of biggest upsets of the Open Longboard division, eliminating professional longboarder and one of the events top-seeds Ruben Roxburgh (Evans Head) from the event. Both Howe and Ferguson posted heat totals in the above average range (12-points out of a possible 20 points) to eliminate Roxburgh in round two.
Lara Murphy (Bondi) dominated the Womens division posting a 11.93 heat total. Murphy performed an array of turns and traditional manoeuvres and as a result, Murphy bypassed the requalification rounds and sealed her position straight into the finals.
Jack Entwistle (Manly) put on a blistering performance to dominate the first round of the Open Loggers division. The Northern Beaches goofy-footer finished the heat with a 15.67 heat total and booked his spot into the final rounds.
Over 150 surfers will compete in the four-day event, which will decide the male and female NSW Open Surfmasters Team and NSW Open Longboard Team for the 2016 Australian Surf Festival in Coffs Harbour in August.
