Shaper Supply hosts first quarterly surfboard swap meet
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 5 November, 2013 - Last week, the Los Angeles surf community gathered to buy, sell, barter and view the hundreds of boards that were on display for Shaper Supply’s first quarterly surfboard swap meet.
A wide array of boards was featured, including invaluable vintage boards, in addition to brand-new boards.
While notable sellers, including members of the Long Board Collectors Club, on the surf side; Skip Engblom of Dogtown was also there, selling unfinished, blank skate decks that customers can cut into custom shapes, keeping in theme with the “DIY spirit” of the shop.
Those who attended the swap meet were treated to the sounds of musicians, Kent Bell and Rusty deLa Croix, and complimentary drinks. In addition, hundreds of dollars were raised for charity – all proceeds of the raffle were donated to Surfers Healing.
More than 150 guests were in attendance at the swap meet, including: many local “backyard” shapers who were to there to swap, sell and buy boards.
Guest were also there to see live demos by veteran shapers Peter Schroff and the late Bruce Grant; local surf-inspired brands, Freedom Artists (Pascal Stansfield and crew) and Lightning Bolt, both of which were selling their collections at a discounted price; and a handful of family and friends.
Shaper Supply provides training, tools, and supplies for building or repairing surfboard, boat, and other marine craft.
