ASP 6-Star Men's and Women's event
Zippers, Los Cabos, Mexico
16 - 22 June 2014

Dream Tour Hopefuls Travel to Mexico for Los Cabos Open of Surf

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 14 June, 2014 - Los Cabos, Mexico - The Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) 6-Star Los Cabos Open of Surf is set to host 144 men and 60 women at Zippers in Los Cabos, Mexico from June 16 through 22, 2014 and back-to-back swells should deliver favorable conditions throughout the event window.

The largest surfing event in Mexican history represents a crucial stop on the ASP Qualification Series (QS). The Los Cabos Open of Surf is the last of three 6-Star events for the Men’s season and the fourth of seven on the women’s calendar.

Parker Coffin (Santa Barbara, CA), 18, current leader on the ASP North America Pro Junior Series, is a wildcard in the Men’s Los Cabos Open of Surf and the young Californian is looking to gain crucial ground on the ASP Qualification Series (QS) with a result at Zippers.

“There are definitely not too many 6-Stars this year on the calendar so for me to have the opportunity to compete here is huge,” said Coffin. “It's a struggle to get into the events with my low rating so this is a great opportunity to get some points to boost my ranking and hopefully allow me to get into more events next year. I'm right on the edge of being able to get into the events, but hopefully I can do some work in this event and get enough points to be in the Primes in the near future.”

While Coffin is one of the youngest surfers in the draw, the proximity to California has allowed the explosive goofy-footer to log more than a few trips to the iconic Mexican venue.

“I've spent some time in Cabo over the past few years but not really in the heart of the town,” Said Coffin. “My experiences have always been great with fun waves, cool people, and incredible food so I'm super excited to be able to be down there for all those reasons. My Mom and Dad are actually coming with me too so it will be fun to be hanging with them doing some fun family stuff.”

In addition to some of the next generation’s finest talent, the Los Cabos Open of Surf will host several ASP World Championship Tour (WCT) campaigners and international standouts including Josh Kerr (AUS), 30, Brett Simpson (Huntington Beach, CA), 29, WCT rookie Dion Atkinson (AUS), 28, Mitch Coleborn (AUS), 27, Yadin Nicol (AUS), 29, Patrick Gudauskas (USA), 28, Tanner Gudauskas (USA), 25, and defending event champion Dillon Perillo (USA), 24.

The Los Cabos Open of Surf Women’s division includes the likes of Coco Ho (HAW), 23, Lakey Peterson (USA), 19, Pauline Ado (FRA), 23, Laura Enever (AUS), 22, Alana Blanchard (HAW), 24, and several more of the world’s best.
