ASP QS Surfing Returns to Indonesia with Komune Bali Pro

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 21 August, 2014 - The Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) is thrilled to announce a brand new 1-Star Qualifying Series (QS) event in Indonesia — the Komune Bali Pro presented by The Mad Hueys. The event will be co-sanctioned with the ASP and the Asian Surfing Championship Tour (ASC) to provide maximum opportunity for athletes to improve their rankings on both tours.

Tony Cannon, co-owner of Komune Bali is proud of the resort and the break and is looking forward to putting on a show with Indonesian and International talent battling for barrels, ranking points and prize-money.
“All of the crew at Hotel Komune Bali are pumped the ASP has chosen our hotel and beach club at Keramas Bali to host a QS event this year,” Cannon said. “We are also stoked to be once again combining with the boys from The Mad Hueys to put on this unique event which we hope will be one of the most fun and most entertaining events on the surfing calendar this year at one of the world’s best high performance waves.”
Damon Nicholls, co-founder of The Mad Hueys is looking forward to bringing his brand’s unique personality to the ASP QS and putting on a show at one of the world’s best waves.
“As The Mad Hueys are starting to take over the world it only felt natural to join forces with our good friends at Komune and put on one of the best and sickest events the ASP will ever see,” Nicholls said. “It may only be a 1-Star QS but it will be the craziest 1-Star in history at one of the best waves in the world. It's our pleasure to be involved in the Komune Bali Pro presented by The Mad Hueys.”

Raditya Rondi (IND), three-time ASC champion from Kuta, Bali is looking forward to hosting some of the world’s best QS surfers on his home island for an exciting new event.

"I'm really excited to hear about the ASP coming back to Keramas,” Rondi said. “It’s a QS and ASC event so we can compete against more international surfers. From me and the other Bali boys, we welcome you guys to Keramas!"
Dane Jordan, ASP Australasia General Manager is happy to see a resurgence of the lower rated QS events as they offer surfers the chance to get competitive experience and a starting point towards climbing the ASP QS rankings and possibly towards the Samsung Galaxy ASP World Championship Tour (WCT).
“The 1-Star QS events are a great way to gain competitive experience,” Jordan said. “This event will give local Indonesian surfers the chance to build up some ranking’s points and test themselves against some seasoned competitive surfers and the best upcoming juniors. It’s great to have support from Komune and The Mad Hueys and I’m really looking forward to the event.”
Tim Hain, General Manager of the ASC has been working to keep the ASP and ASC events running at some of the world’s best waves and is proud to showcase the waves and the talent that Asia has to offer.
“Earlier this year Dane (Jordan), Tony (Cannon) and I met up and agreed to find a way to keep an ASP event going in Bali, after the WCT was taken off the schedule. A dual sanction with the ASP/ASC is ideal so that the local boys could get QS points and experience in addition to ASC points as well. So with the generosity of Komune, The Mad Hueys, and others, we're now super excited to be announcing the first ever 1-Star QS ASP-ASC sanctioned event here in Bali."
The Komune Bali Pro presented by The Mad Hueys has teamed up with Garuda Indonesia as the official airline partner and GoPro as the official camera of the event. The event will run from October 8 - 12.
