2016 Komune Bali Pro
pres. by The Mad Hueys
WSL QS Men's Event
Keramas, Bali Indonesia
3 - 7 May 2016
Event adds night surfing expression session
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 1 March, 2016 - The World Surf League (WSL) Qualifying Series has ramped up the entertainment levels in 2016 with the Komune Bali Pro pres. by The Mad Hueys re-signing on for 2016. The event will have a QS1,000 rating and will run from May 3 - 7 and is also sanctioned by the Asian Surfing Championship (ASC), allowing surfers to gain points on both tours and giving the local surfers a chance to compete against some international talent.
Holding an event at Keramas always has a great chance of attracting the attention of the world's best surfers with last year’s winner Championship Tour (CT) athlete Taj Burrow (AUS) already signing on to compete at this year’s event event. Some big names have also joined Burrow - the likes of Joel “Parko” Parkinson (AUS), Bruce Irons (HAW) as well as Jay Davies (AUS).
“Last year Taj went to Bali and reckoned the Komune Bali Pro was one of the funnest events he’s entered in 20 years of surfing,” said Parkinson. “This year my wife and I decided to join in the fun and hopefully get a few waves with my mates. I have great memories of my time at Komune Bali when they had the CT event in 2013 at Keramas - it was one of the best CT events I’ve surfed in. It will be great to surf against the local boys who will make this an epic event as they all surf really well also. It's going to be a fun few days in and out of the water.”
This year will also feature a Night Surfing expression session starring Bruce Irons and the Mad Hueys boys towing into a few night time barrels with DJs from Red Bull keeping the pool party pumped up until well into the night.
“We are hoping for a repeat of the amazing 8 foot conditions the original Bruce Irons expression session had in 2013,” said Shaun “Hazza” Harrington from The Mad Hueys.
Komune co-owner Tony Cannon is thrilled to once again see a huge card of CT guys plus some of the world's best free surfers return to Bali and go head to head at one of the world's best waves.
“All of us at Komune Bali cannot wait for this year’s event to watch Parko, Taj and Bruce and some of Australia’s young guns surf against the stylish local guys. The daily pool parties with the Mad Hueys boys and the surfers right after the event should be bigger than ever this year.”
