Basse-Pointe, Martinique
1 - 8 April, 2017

128 athletes will compete in the increasingly popular Caribbean event

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 15 February, 2017 - Professional surfers from all four corners of the earth will soon return to the idyllic Martinique island for the third consecutive edition of the Martinique Surf Pro, from April 1-8, 2017 at Basse-Pointe.

An increasingly popular event among the World’s Best QS surfers, the Martinique Surf Pro continues to play a major role in their qualifying campaigns towards the coveted Championship Tour. Portugal’s Frederico Morais, who won the event in 2016, counted the result as third-best in his season tally to obtain a precious ticket for the elite tour.

Following two editions graced with beautiful righthand point break waves, the event will once again unfold at the playful Basse-Pointe, in the Northern East side of the island. The tropical weather, very welcoming locals and breath-taking scenery of the area is sure to once again be a highlight of the surfers’ season.

This year, a field of 128 athletes will have a shot at the 3,000 QS points and US75,000$ global prize purse on offer. Nested in the season’s first half, the Martinique Surf Pro is a great stepping stone for surfers coming up strong on the ranks to secure their spot in the back-half of the year’s highly coveted big QS events of Europe and Hawaii.

A few lucky locals will also have a chance to battle some of the most successful competitive surfers and demonstrate the talent pool developing in the Caribbean.
