Bourez Reaches Quarterfinals of Quiksilver Pro France

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 4 October, 2010 : - - Michel Bourez (Tahiti, PYF), 23, delivered a great performance throughout the prestigious Quiksilver Pro France last week finishing off his French run with a solid equal 5th place finish after losing to ASP World No. 1 Kelly Slater (Florida, USA) in the Quarterfinals.

Unleashing his powerful surfing and impressive tube-riding abilities to advance through five rounds, Bourez was at ease in the spectacular surf conditions of the last two days of competition, the Tahitian charger taking-off on some of the most impressive waves to try and counter Slater’s unstoppable form, in vain.

“To make the Quarterfinals is good for me in France,” Bourez said. “All the people around here are so supportive every time I see them. They tell me that I am supporting France as well. It’s very exciting for me.”

Defeating Hawaii’s Roy Powers (Kauai, HAW), Australia’s Chris Davidson and rookie owen Wright (New South Wales, AUS) before sending ASP Elite veteran Taylor Knox (California, USA) home in Round 5, Bourez showed he was in good form. Facing former nine-time ASP World Champion Kelly Slater in pumping eight-to-nine foot waves at the event’s main location of les Culs Nus, Bourez couldn’t find any exit to the deep barrels on offer.

“I am pretty pumped going into the next event and I hope we get similar waves in Portugal,” Bourez said. “It’s a good result to keep for the year and I hope things keep going as good if not better in the upcoming events.”

Much expected by the local crowds and coming and confident since his excellent Semifinal finish in Tahiti, Jeremy Flores (Capbreton, FRA) was not able to win his Round 3 bout against Brazil’s Jadson Andre (BRA) despite a massive support from the crowds. Only French native on the ASP World Tour, Flores had opened his campaign with a convincing Round 1 win in big surf on Day of competition, but failed to better the rookie.

Also in good form since the start of the year, Portugal’s best ever surfer Tiago Pires (Ericeira, PRT), third European representative on this year’s ASP World title race, suffered an unexpected Round 2 loss leaving France with an equal 33rd place finish, his worst result this year.
