Milwaukee to release ‘Heavy Duty Moments with Hippo’

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 13 December, 2013 - Milwaukee Tools and Surfing Australia will be powering into next year, joining forces today in what promises to deliver innovative and engaging content for surfing fans Australia-wide.

Under the partnership, Milwaukee is now a major corporate partner of Surfing Australia with big-wave champion Ryan ‘Hippo’ Hipwood becoming a Milwaukee ambassador.

The sponsorship will primarily include a digital series integrating Hipwood which will deliver high quality, engaging content.

The Milwaukee ‘Heavy Duty Moments with Hippo’ will be a bi-monthly, 4–5 minute segment profiling the world renowned big wave surfer.

The segments will highlight Hipwood and his tradesmen utilising Milwaukee’s heavy-duty, portable electric power tools and accessories during the construction of his home, and explore his life as a surfer at his local surf breaks and also follow him as he takes on the world’s heaviest waves.

“I am super excited to be on-board with Milwaukee Power Tools as my new sponsor and to be working with Surfing Australia,” said Hipwood.

“The 6-part TV series Heavy Duty Moments will be a great project for 2014 and I am really looking forward to it.”

Surfing Australia’s Digital Content Team will shoot and produce the 6-part series along with a dedicated 30 second television commercial, which will be aired on Surfing Australia TV on free to air television.

Milwaukee’s Brand Manager Tom Mathiesen said the partnership with Surfing Australia allowed the brand to engage with a new audience, particularly targeting professional tool users who surf.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for Milwaukee Power Tools and we are very excited to be partnering with both Surfing Australia and Ryan Hipwood,” said Mathiesen.

“This is a new avenue for us and we are very keen to be associated with such great events, initiatives and athletes, we’re looking forward to a huge year ahead. For years, surfers around the country have been great supporters of our products and this is a great way to give something back.”

Surfing Australia CEO Andrew Stark said: “We welcome Milwaukee as our newest partner and look forward to working with them to deliver innovative digital content and also a broad sponsorship platform across Surfing Australia. Milwaukee are a strong brand and they align very well with our sport.”

Milwaukee will become a support sponsor of the new Be the Influence Australian Boardriders Battle. The national series involving Australia’s boardriding clubs in seven State qualifying events will culminate in a national final, which will be staged at Cronulla on the Australia Day long weekend (25-26 January, 2014).

The sponsorship also includes naming rights to a social media competition, the Milwaukee Power Move. The social media promotion is all about capturing the biggest and best power moves that surfing offers.
