Mitch Crews edges out Michael Wright to win the 4 Star Quiksilver Open Japan
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 2 June, 2013 : - - ASP Japan Men’s Star Tour Event 1, the largest scale event in Japan, ASP 4 Star event Quiksilver Open Japan went into action of final day today and crowned the champion for the 2013 edition at Tsurigasaki Beach, Ichinomiya, Chosei, Chiba .
The conditions at Tsurigasaki Beach today were 3 to 5 ft. (2 meter) wind affected conditions with improved weather. Event called the surfers this morning at 8am at the first call to get in action for the remaining heats of the round of 32 all the way to crown a champion.
The 4 semi finalist was an all Australian surfer affair. Semi final heat 1 was Cooper Chapman (AUS) vs Mitch Crews (AUS). Crews with a combined score of 19.26 overtaking Chapman with a 15.90 and the in form surfer Crews moves to the finals. Semi final heat 2 was Davey Cathels (AUS) vs. Michael Wright (AUS). Wright with a combined score of 17.80 to Cathels with a 16.33points and Wright moves to the decider with Crews.
Michael Wright (AUS) vs. Mitch Crews (AUS) move to the grand finals. Crews scores 2 excellent scores of 9.17 and 8.07 points and makes a combined score of 17.24points. Wright scores 2 scores of 7.33 and 6.83 points to make a combined score of 14.16points. Mitch Crews is crowned the 2013 QUIKSILVER OPEN JAPAN champion.
2013 QUIKSILVER OPEN JAPAN champion Mitch Crews (AUS) now with 3622 points on the ASP World Ranking stands now No.37 well within sights to qualification.
