The Nahoon Junior Open caters for boys and girls in the U10, U12, U14 and U16

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 27 April, 2017 - Nahoon Beach in East London will play host to the Sea Harvest Nahoon Junior Open presented by Twizza this weekend and over 80 surfers from all parts of the country are on their way to Buffalo City to compete in the 3A Rated South African Surf Tour event.

The event will get under way with an Opening Function at the Nahoon Lifesavers Club on Friday evening at 6pm. The Buffalo City Surfriders will be selling their famous boerewors rolls to raise funds and refreshments will be available at the clubhouse. All competing surfers, event officials, family and friends are welcome to attend this function and the Buffalo City Surfriders bring and braai which will take place at the same venue on Saturday at 6pm.

The contest itself is scheduled to get under way at 8am on Saturday and with the semi finals and finals taking place on Sunday. The Award Ceremony will take place at Nahoon Beach between 2.30pm and 3pm.

The Nahoon Junior Open caters for boys and girls in the U10, U12, U14 and U16 and offers points on the South African Surf Tour ratings and over R20000 in prize money.In addition to the ratings points and prizemoney on offer, the event is one of four that Surfing South Africa has earmarked as a selection contest for surfers in the U16 Boys and Girls Divisions who hope to make the 2017 South African Junior Squad.

This is the third edition of the annual Nahoon Beach event and it follows the Billabong Junior Series in Port Elizabeth and the Sea Harvest Vic Bay Gromcomp on the 2017 SAST schedule.

The Nahoon Junior Open is sponsored by Sea harvest and Twizza and supported by the National Lotteries Commission. The tournament is presented by Surfing South Africa and hosted the Buffalo City Surfriders. All the official’s accommodation is provided by Oakhampton Guest House.

Surfing South Africa is the governing body for the sport in South Africa and is a member of the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC) and the International Surfing Association (ISA).
