Hedge wins nail-biter final against Noah Lane

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 29 April, 2012 : - - Gold Coast, Queensland -- Nathan Hedge (North Narrabeen, NSW / Buderim, Qld) has jumped to the top of the 2012 Chiko Queensland Championship Circuit ratings after claiming the Chiko Sunshine Coast Pro in a nail-biting final over defending series champion Noah Lane (Burleigh Heads / Rainbow Beach, Qld).

Hedge went one better than his runner-up placing in the Chiko MP Classic a fortnight ago on the Gold Coast, today claiming the Sunshine Coast Pro in powerful two-metre waves at Coolum Beach.

Scoring a combined two wave total of 15.00 points (out of a possible 20), which included a 7.00 ride (out of a possible 10) on his final wave, Hedge edged out Lane by less than half-a-point (14.60), with fellow MP Classic finalists Oney Anwar (Indonesia / Palm Beach, Qld – 9.37) and Jay Phillips (Snapper Rocks, Qld – 4.80) finishing third and fourth respectively.

The 2012 Chiko Queensland Championship Circuit heads to the famed Currumbin Alley next week (May 5-6) for the annual Chiko Alley Classic - the penultimate stop on this year’s series. Based on competitors’ best three-of-four results, the series’ top two athletes will get the chance to compete against the world’s best surfers at the 2013 ASP World Tour Quiksilver Pro Trials.

To ensure the QCC‘s top two athletes are performing at their optimum for the Quiksilver Pro Trials, Surfing Queensland in conjunction with Surfing Australia will provide two-days of training at the world-class Hurley Surfing Australia High Performance Centre. The 2012 QCC boasts a stellar AUD$30,000 prize-pool, with an extra AUD$500 randomly awarded to four competitors who compete in all four events.

Oney Anwar also claimed his second consecutive XXXX Summer Bright Lager ‘Wave of the Weekend,’ walking away with four cartons of XXXX Summer Bright Lager after registering the event’s highest single wave score of 9.00 (out of a possible 10 points) across the two-day competition.

The Chiko Sunshine Coast Pro is proudly supported by Chiko, XXXX Summer Bright Lager, Australia’s Surfing Life, Five and half Sunglasses, the Hurley Surfing Australia High Performance Centre, Sunshine Coast Regional Council and Surfing Queensland.
