Is the Surfer's Woody back?
Carpenter presents wooden electric car at 2012 China-Eurasia expo
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 11 September, 2012 : - - Here's a whole new concept of the 'Woody', the surfer's transport of choice in the 50's and early 60's. A carpenter presented his self-made wooden electric car at the 2012 China-Eurasia Expo in Urumqi, Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region on September 5, 2012. The carpenter spent six months and some 50,000 yuan ($7,880) completing it.
The electric vehicle is able to travel 100 km to 130 km on a single charge and has a top speed of 50 km/h.
The original woodie was a car body style, especially a station wagon, where the rear bodywork was constructed of wood framework with infill panels of wood or painted metal. After the demise of actual wood construction, manufacturers used simulated woodgrain sheet vinyl — sometimes augmented with three-dimensional, simulated framework — to recall wood construction.
