Nichola Turner crowned Over-35 women's champion
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 12 June, 2014 - Solid four-to-five foot waves rolled into South Boomerang for the first day of the HIF NSW Surfmasters Titles presented by Moby's Beachside Retreat, where champions were crowned in the Over-35 Women division, Over-55 Men and the Over-35 Single Fin division.
After locking in a series of solid scores in the first Over-35 Womens final, Nichola Turner never looked like losing the overall battle between herself and Susan Levett. After throwing down a chain of manoeuvres on chunky waves with a series of flair and bravado, Turner was able to take two wins across dual finals and was consequently was crowned the Over-35 NSW Womens Champion.
2013 Australian Single Fin Title runner-up Grant Hudson showed his technical prowess in the Single Fin division when he bagged dual wins across both of his six-men finals. The Port Macquarie surfer was able to milk out multiple turns in the throaty waves to topple a talented field that consisted of Michael Crisp, Carl Musker Rob Hazelwood, Jamie Doran and Barry Drewitt.
“I’m over the moon to win another Single Fin title,” said Hudson. “This is the third year running I’ve managed to get a win in the NSW Single Fin titles, so I’m absolutely wrapped. Plus, the amazing scenery and waves here in Pacific Palms are beautiful. It’s been a great day.”
Mark Phelan added another Over-55 Surfmasters Title to his mantelpiece when he took out the prestigious division for the second year on the trot. The Terrigal natural-footer performed a series of cruisey and fluent turns to nab the win ahead of Wayne Kinerson, Wayne Roach and Colin Carr.
The HIF NSW Surfmasters Titles presented by Moby's Beachside Retreat will also run back-to-back with the 2014 Australian Skin Cancer Clinics NSW Longboard Titles presented by HIF which kicks off from the 17th - 21st June and the Australian Kneeboard Titles on June 22nd.
