Surfing Australia Coaching Director To Work With WA's Best Junior Surfers
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 15 November, 2012 : - - Surfing Australia’s National Coaching Director Martin Dunn will be in Western Australia at the weekend to assist Mike McAuliffe (WA Junior Team Coach) and five regional high performance coaches prepare the 2012 WA Junior Surfing Team for the upcoming National Titles in Nubeena, Tasmania.
Martin Dunn is Australia’s most successful and innovative surfing coach, gaining his knowledge through working with Australia’s champion surfers over a 25 year period, with a commitment to help surfers of all levels as well as developing high performance surf coaches around the country. Dunn's visit coincides with Surfing WA's announcement of its State Junior Surfing Team and aims to develop these young surfers by offering support and direction as they embark on arguably the biggest competitive event of any junior career, the Australian Titles.
The two day training camp with take place in Margaret River and focus on education in the areas of technical surfer analysis, simulated heat drills, video analysis, competition preparation and Steetboardz sessions. "The purpose of my visit to WA is to help the WA Junior Team prepare for the upcoming Aussie Titles," said Dunn. "I aim to present some real perspectives with 'event heat stories' that I observed and filmed at last months ASP World Pro Junior event in Bali."
Surfing WA has also arranged a high ropes adventure for the junior surfers at Explorus Adventure Learning in Karridale to promote team building and communication skills amongst the group. With the WA State Junior Team set to depart to the Soundwave Australian Junior Titles in South-East Tasmania in the coming weeks the timing is perfect, as the ultimate junior surfing contest will see over 150 qualifiers from across the country compete for national crowns.
"This is definitely an exciting and talented group who will benefit greatly from the experience people like Martin Dunn and Mike McAullife bring to the table," said Surfing WA High Performance Manager Mike McMonigal. Travelling to the cold waters of Tasmania is a mission from WA, so we want to best prepare our surfers for all scenarios."
