Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 14 March, 2016 - Six extremely happy groms had a day out yesterday at Snapper Rocks after winning the Nikon CoolPix competition as part of Weet-Bix SurfGroms.

The group spent the day mingling with some of the best surfers in the world, touring the Quiksilver Pro site with former world champion Lisa Andersen, and surfing as part of a Weet-Bix SurfGroms session.

Four time world champion Mark Richards, Current World Surf League (WSL) Qualifying Series competitor Connor O’Leary, up and coming competitor Alysa Lock and super coach Josh Fuller put the kids through an extremely fun session at Rainbow Bay.

Young Abigail Zammit was over the moon to be on the Gold Coast, mingling some famous names. “I really liked going into the competitor’s area to see the pros getting ready and loved going surfing with Mark Richards and the others,” she said.

The prize included: flights and transfers to Coolangatta Airport for one child and one adult; one night’s accommodation at Coolangatta for one child and one adult,Weet-Bix pack,Quiksilver or Roxy merchandise pack, exclusive behind the scenes tour of the Snapper Rocks event site and the opportunity to meet and surf with some Quiksilver and Roxy surfing ambassadors.

Weet-Bix SurfGroms is the world-first national junior surfing program which offers 5-12 olds an opportunity to develop strong ocean awareness and beach safety skills, while also developing a proficiency in surfing.

More than 45,000 children across Australia have enjoyed the program since it started in October, 2011. Every registered participant had a chance to win a ‘money can’t buy’ trip by providing a photo of themselves enjoying the program through the Nikon CoolPix competition.
