Scholarships received by Northern Beaches Title winners
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 20 May, 2014 - All winners of the 2014 Surfing Northern Beaches Regional Titles have received a scholarship to the new High Performance Surf Centre, Sydney.
The HSPC opened last week at Cromer and is the first of its kind in New South Wales, providing a gym for Northern Beaches surfers with a weight room for strength training and a half pipe for the athletes to perform aerial surfing techniques.
The gym was the idea of President of Surfing Northern Beaches and Director of Manly Surf School, Matt Grainger.
“The goal is to provide Northern Beaches surfers the best possible training to help them compete on the world stage,” said Grainger.
Current attendees who have been training at the new centre include: former World Championship Tour surfer and world top 10 Nathan Hedge, current third place holder in the ASP Australasian Pro Junior Series Cooper Chapman, 2013 Australian Champion Fraser Dovell and 2013 Australian Title runner-up Harley Ross-Webster.
Surfing NSW CEO Mark Windon has endorsed the new centre at Cromer.
“The new state-of-the-art High Performance Surf Centre on Sydney’s Northern Beaches is the perfect set-up for current and aspiring professional surfers to take their surfing to the next level,” said Windon. “The Northern Beaches have always been a breeding ground for talent, so with the inception of this centre and the guidance of people like Matt Grainger, I think it will continue to bloom in the forthcoming years.”
