Dropping, inconsistent swell gives way over the weekend

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 22 August, 2014 - Teahupo'o, Tahiti - The Billabong Pro Tahiti, stop no. 7 on the 2014 Samsung Galaxy ASP World Championship Tour has been put on STANDBY today with inconsistent 3-to-5 foot waves and dropping swell at Teahupo'o. A third consecutive lay day has been called and event organizers will reconvene at 7:00 a.m. local time (TAHT/GMT -10) on Saturday, August 23 to assess conditions.

"We've woken up to an amazing day here in Tahiti with beautiful offshore winds and the surface has really settled down," said ASP Commissioner Kieren Perrow. "Unfortunately though the swell is really on the way out, it's dying and has that weak feeling. It will drop throughout the day so we won't be running any heats and we'll come back tomorrow."

Surfline, official surf forecasters for the Billabong Pro Tahiti, have called for: Mid-size leftovers from the current swell prevail Friday. A new, longer period SW swell fills in over the late afternoon/evening and continues Saturday with very contestable surf, just smaller that what we’ve seen the past few days. Stronger and solid, mid-period SW swell fills in through Sunday, looks strongest Monday and then eases Tuesday. North wind prevails over the weekend, with weak trades returning early next week.
