European surf shops prep for Anglet's Sables d'Or
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 5 June, 2014 - The Oakley Surf Shop Challenge Europe returns for its second instalment this weekend, following the success of the inaugural event last year.
Expanding a concept that has been running in the USA since the 1980's to European shores, the leading surf retailers from across the Continent will pitch their shredding skills against each other for bragging rights - as well as a dream surf trip to California for the winners.
Fifteen shops from across Europe make up this year's field, including teams from France, Spain, Portugal and the UK.
Four person teams - which must include two shop employees as well as two pros - will compete in a tag team format in the famous peaks of Anglet's Sables d'Or. Among them will be defending champions SB3 of Labenne, France who will be facing stiff competition if they are to successfully defend their crown.
The first call of the event will be 7am Saturday 7th June, with regular updates on conditions, event status and results via social media.
Oakley teamrider and leading European pro surfer Romain Cloitre, who will be among the crowd cheering the teams on, said, "I'm super stoked Oakley are bringing the Surf Shop Challenge to Europe again. Fingers crossed we get some good surf, because you can guarantee the standard of surfing at the event will be pretty incredible, there're some real top talents taking part."
Stand out names include Romain Lauhle, Aldric God and Tristan Gilbaud from France and Mario Azurza and Ethan Eguiguren from Spain. And that's just the dudes! Former Women's WCT surfer Caroline Sarran of France and Spanish ripper Lucia Martino will be making sure it's not all about the boys.
