Surf for the Sea benifiting Surfrider returns to Oceanside

Surfersvillage Global Surf News 12 August, 2014 - The 18th Annual Surf for the Sea will take place on Saturday and Sunday, September 6 & 7, 2014 at the North Jetty Oceanside Harbor.  The Oceanside Firefighters event will take place on Friday, Sept 5 and will feature our local public safety officers surfing in a fun filled event.  Also new this year we have added a Junior Pro event “Summer Youth Clash” for our youth age Under 20.  Our local Oceanside surf related  businesses have guaranteed a $6,000 total purse for this event that will take place on Wednesday and Thursday, Sept 3 & 4 presented by Brixton, Chemistry Surfboards, Nixon Eyeware, Raen Optics and  Surfride Board Shop.

Surf for the Sea is a commemorative surfing event in loving memory of the late Harry Bennett, Steve Leighton, Tore Bonura, Chuck “Clubber” Hundley, Banning Capps, Court Overin, John Craven, Midget Smith, Casey Williams, Chris Pompa, Michael Pultz, and most recently Susie Prestie, all local surfers and family of Surf for the Sea who have passed away. This is a memorial benefit for the Surfrider Foundation, San Diego Chapter and other Environmental Organizations helping to protect our coast, ocean, waves and beaches.  Trophies will be awarded in 15 divisions.

The entry fee is $50 for amateur and $100 for the Pro Division.  All competitors receive an event T-shirt, lunch catered by local Oceanside restaurant Johnny Manana’s, and a chance at the opportunity raffle including surfboards, wetsuits, and great prizes provided by the surfing industry. Surf for the Sea also includes a Beach Clean-Up that ties into the theme of environmental awareness.  Entry blanks are available in Oceanside at Johnny Manana’s Restaurant, Asylum Surf Shop, Surfride Board Shop, Maximum Mortgage & Real Estate and Byrne & Chemistry Surfboards.
