Europe embarks on twelve-week summer leg of events
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 13 August, 2015 - Hossegor - Top International QS contenders will soon flock to the Old Continent for the start of an exciting 2015 European summer leg of events. Starting in August, a mix of Junior, Longboard and Qualifying Series will bring the region to the center of the surfing world, to finally culminate with the two Samsung Galaxy Championship Tour events of France and Portugal.
Starting with the YNTHT SURF DE NUIT pres. by SOWEST COLA, twelve excellent surfers will hone their aerial skills in a night-surf specialty event in Anglet. Live music sessions will warm-up the scene before the sun sets, opening the door to a DJ set and the airshow from 9pm on August 14. The Bonus ? A wildcard slot into the Pro Anglet is also up-for-grabs !
Simultaneously on August 14, the fourth stop on the European Junior Qualifying Series, the Airwalk Lacanau Pro Junior will reignite the exciting battles for the coveted under-21 regional title. With just one last event after Lacanau, pressure’s ON for the Juniors to perform and earn their qualification ticket for the World Junior final.
On August 18, the real deal begins with the Men’s QS3,000 Soöruz Lacanau Pro, the first of six consecutive QS events across France, Spain, Morocco and Portugal. One of the oldest events on tour, the Lacanau stop will once again bring fans from all-over France’s South-West and beyond for a piece of the classic surf and music action along the main beach.
When the dust settles in Gironde, the QS caravan will move further South to the Pro Anglet, a fresh new addition to the 2015 schedule where both men and women will compete at the iconic Chambre d’Amour.
Moving into September, surfers will hit the magnificient coastline road in Northern Spain heading towards Galicia and the traditional Pantin Classic Galicia Pro. The last Women’s QS6,000 event worldwide, Pantin will make or break the dreams of CT qualification campaigners as well as crown the 2015 European Women Champion.
From the Western tip of Spain, a quick hop by plane will bring some of the best European and International surfers to a historical first WSL event in Morocco, the Quiksilver Pro Casablanca pres. by the Royal Moroccan Surfing Federation at Anfaplace. This exciting new stop will bring professional surfing to Northern-Africa and unveil the potential of both waves and the local talents of Morocco. The icing on the cake ? We will crown the European Champion in Casablanca !
Deemed the Champions Week, the following few days will see two events simultaneously crown the European Junior Champions at the Teguise 2015 Franito Pro Junior, and the European Longboard Champions at the Longboard Pro Vieux Boucau. While the Canaries will serve up a long hollow lefthand pointbreak as the scene to highlight Europe’s best up-and-comers, clean powerful A-frames in South-West France will be a perfect canvas to display both traditional and progressive longboard skills.
From an Atlantic archipelago to another, the WSL tour will then move to dreamy Azores for the QS10,000 SATA Azores Pro, where the World’s Best Top100 including elite CT athletes will do battle at the volcanic beach of Santa Barbara.
Finally, the last QS event in Europe for 2015 will convey the same crowd to Portugal mainland’s Cascais for another QS10,000 to be held between the two beaches of Carcavelos and Guincho from September 28 - October 4.
In October, while most QS campaigners will take their act to Japan, the US and Brazil, Europe will host the Samsung Galaxy Championship Tour stops of Hossegor and Peniche in the culmination of a three-month build-up.
