70-minute documentary on big-wave maven Paige Alms debuts

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 8 June, 2016 - Director Devyn Bisson's latest project focuses on the life of female big wave pioneer Paige Alms. The documentary will travel up the west coast of the United States to screen in San Diego, San Francisco, Santa Cruz and Portland from June 10 to June 22.

Door times vary, but all showings will begin at 7:30 pm with a Q&A with Paige and Devyn immediately following.

"We've struggled to ever get any support from the surf industry, and it's always been pretty defeating, but when Paige and I go into a screening, whether it's San Diego or London, the response is insane,” says Bisson. “People literally come up to us and thank us for making this film, and that's when I finally get to remind myself that it was all worth it. It was so necessary. We needed this film. Our audience needed it, not the industry."

The screenings, made possible thanks to support from Patagonia and Proof Lab, will take place in the following locations:

June 10 – San Diego - La Paloma Theatre (471 S Coast Hwy 101, Encinitas) Pre-party 6 pm at Patagonia (2185 San Elijo Ave, Cardiff)

June 15 – San Francisco - Proof Lab (244 Shoreline Hwy, Mill Valley)

Free and open to the public, including a set by Ellie Mae & The Ricochet’s.

June 16 – Santa Cruz - Patagonia Store (415 River St, Santa Cruz)

Free and open to the public, including a set by Ellie Mae & The Ricochet’s.

June 22 – Portland - Patagonia Store (907 NW Irving St, Portland)

Free and open to the public.

The Wave I Ride: The Paige Alms Story is a 70-minute documentary chronicling a year in the life of Alms. The first full-length film from award-winning filmmaker Devyn Bisson, The Wave I Ride pulls the curtain back on the plight of women in the male dominated sport of big wave surfing. The resulting tale is as much eye opening as it is motivational, regardless if you’re a man, woman, girl, boy, surfer or not.

The Wave I Ride is available exclusively digitally on all major on demand platforms, including Amazon Instant Video, Comcast’s Xfinity TV, Google Play, iTunes, Sony PlayStation Store, Time Warner Cable, Verizon FiOS, Vudu and Xbox Video.
