Paige reflects on Newcastle, readies for 2014 World Tour season
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 27 February, 2014 - After a disappointing start at the Australian Open in Manly, Sydney I was amped up to do well in Newcastle. I've done well here before and after last year's first round knockout I had pressure and expectations on myself to do well.
I felt really good and confident, more in the "zone" that us athletes talk about. Unfortunately I made too many mistakes in my round of 12 heat therefore missing out by point one! Any loss sucks but when it comes that close I think it makes it that much harder to swallow.
The positive I can take out of it though is that I feel I'm surfing good and my Mt Woodgee boards are going really good so onwards and upwards for the first upcoming World tour event of the year, Snapper Rocks, Gold Coast.

I think I've been to the Gold Coast more than anywhere else in the world so it's like my second home. I feel very familiar and comfortable here. The waves are always fun and the weather always warm, I can't ask for much more!
It's that time of the year where all the top surfers in the world congregate together and head to the Surfer's Banquet to award the World Champs their trophies. It's one of the only nights where we all get to dress up fancy so it's pretty cool to see how all of us salty, sandy, burnt surfers scrub up into suits and dresses!
I'm confident that this year is going to be pretty exciting, with the new ASP, new waves on tour, more prize money and better media coverage. It's looking like good waves for the next week so there will be surfing to be done!
