Joli Photos files report from the world's most luxurious surfing event

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 12 August, 2015 - Hi from the Maldives, Hawaiian Shane Dorian took out the 2015 Four Seasons Maldives Surfing Champions Trophy at Sultan’s Point over the weekend. Shane defeated last year’s champ Dave Rastovich in the Grand Final of the unique event and secured himself a spot in the 2016 contest.

Shane was one of small group of invited surfers that included defending champ Dave Rastovich, Brad Gerlach, Harley Ingleby, Neco Padaratz and Sofia Mulanovich. The contest doubles as a luxury surf travel holiday, with an interesting but simple format. In Round 1 competitors battle it out on Single Fins, Round 2 is on their Twin Fins while Round 3 has them on Thrusters, with a Grand Final determining the winner.

The final was a climax to an amazing week of surfing from all competitors. Shane had won the Twin Fin Round over Rasta and the Thruster Round over Neco Padaratz. Rasta took out the Single Fin Round with Neco finishing second.

The spots in the final were decided on a points system with Rasta securing one spot early while Shane and Neco were left to fight it out for the other spot when they met in the final of the Thruster Round.

Rasta was the 2014 Surfing Champions Trophy winner and surfed incredibly all event taking out the Single Fin Round and a 2nd place in the Twin Fin. in the Grand Final Shane was in rhythm from the opening buzzer and Rasta was unable to find the scores to take out back-to-back Champions Trophy titles.
