Piping Hot Surf for Life set for next weekend
Piping Hot Surf for Life is a one-day celebrity surfing event held at Surfers Paradise Surf Lifesaving Club on the Gold Coast. Designed to raise awareness of Here for Life, a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to the prevention of youth suicide, Piping Hot Surf For Life brings together pro-surfers, local junior young guns/grommets, media celebrities and sporting identities.
Each team is composed of a celebrity, a sporting identity and a junior surfer. Its a fun exhibition event that always attracts great interest from the local community. The competition take the form of team events with a number of prizes being awarded at the end of each event, including the best team, celebrity and junior surfer.
Dermott Brereton(AFL legend), Kye & Dane Hurst, Stephen King, Nathan Myer (Champion Iron Men), Paul Weel (V8 Supercar Driver), Denis Cotterill (Swimming super-coach of Grant Hackett, etc etc) Ben Ikin (Brisbane Broncos), Tony Priddle (Former ST George NRL), , Andy Phipps (Phippsy channel 9 Fishing Reporter), and maybe even the Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin (Depending on scheduling arrangements), will pit their surfing skills against local kids and pro-surfers including World Indigenous Surfing Champion, Rory Togo, and other local rippers such as Jay Phillips, James Lewis, Jai Boyce, to name a few, all with the aim of raising funds for Here For Life.
Here for Life provides education, awareness and preventative programmes for young adults and conducts extensive research into the area of youth suicide.
Piping Hot is the major sponsor of Surf for Life and assists with securing on-going support from the surf industry for this important cause, including participants such as Hardcore, Billabong, Quiksilver, Rip Curl and Oakley.
