2015 Revolt Summer Surf Series, Stop #1

Mission Beach, San Diego
20 June 2015

Mission Beach serves up the fun for RVLT Summer Surf Series event #1

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 23 June, 2015 - Mission Beach, San Diego - San Fernando Ct. in Mission Beach offered up small but contest-able waves for the RSSS competitors this past Saturday. 1-2 foot waves with an occasional 3 footer, kept the field level and made all the surfers work hard for their scores.

While the surf conditions may not have been optimal - the stoke was at an all time high when athletes from around the globe showed up to support Season 9 of the RSSS - Pier II Pier - Pro Am. Victor Bernardo, Vince Boulanger, JD Lewis, Brandon Roberts & even Tonino Benson were just some of the elite surfers competing Saturday.

Groms took advantage of the smaller conditions and for the first time a perfect score was seen from a Grom at the RSSS - Katsuto Takeuchi impressed the judges with his wave selection & some pretty advanced maneuvers to secure a perfect 10 during his final heat. He surfed like a seasoned competitor & we expect to see much more from this lil ripper in the future.

RVLT Surf put on a grassroots, 'Old School' surf comp with the emphasis being on the surfers and social responsibility - Red Bull, Kicker Audio and RediNation helped make the first stop a memorable event for the hundred plus athletes, their families & supporters and the scores of spectators that lined the beach & boardwalk to cheer on the competitors.

Athletes from as far away as Australia, Japan and Brazil were there to give the local surfers a run for the money. In the end it was a visiting Brazilian & Sharp Eye Surfboards Team rider Victor Bernardo that took home first in the Men's Pro Am - Brandon Roberts, Jake Halstead & Jacob 'Zeke' Szekely charged the final heat like the season title was on the line - Decent waves and the entire field continually punting airs & pulling off big maneuvers in the smaller surf, left the spectators hooting, whistling & applauding for more.

The ladies showed everyone that the Women's Pro Am is serious about their division. While the glare off the afternoon water was about as annoying as anyone could remember, a quick repositioning of the judges vantage point allowed the competitive girls to finish up with a fair & unanimous decision. Maya Saulino would best Brandy Jester and Serena Nava for the final Heat. The Jr. Women's first place went to Emma Nooran while Brooke Young & Serena Nava put up a good fight.

A unique element of the RSSS is the fact that all disciplines of surfing are represented. Shortboarders, Longboarders & SUP Surfers all share the beach & the breaks at each event. Vibes & egos are checked at the boardwalk wall & everyone shares in the stoke & love of the sport.

Daniel Hughes & Byron Kurt battled it out in the Pro Men's SUP Surf - Junior SUP Surfers, Peter Shoemaker & Delaney Kuepper had supporters up & cheering at the shoreline during their heats. As usual, The Women & Jr. Women's SUP Surf heats were all business, but the smiles & their camaraderie is second to none.

San Diego Firefighter & part time announcer 'Party Boy' Pete Cufarro, Live music by Josh Miranda Band, thePancake Breakfast and free Hotdogs were all a giant hit with the crowd. Great raffles, fun beach games & more make the RSSS much more than just a surf comp. Ocean Force, Sea Save, San Diego Burn Institute & Swell Hearts foundations are just some of the non-profs partnering with the RSSS this year to help raise awareness, while epic raffles including tickets to the Kaboo Festival, Sunset Cruises and Custom Boards all help raise funding for their various causes.

RVLT SURF is supported by Red Bull, Kicker Audio, RediNation, MakerPlace, Liquid Foundation Surf Shops, Rip Curl Pacific Beach, OEX Point Loma, Mission Bay Sports Center, Elite Paddle Training @ MBSC, The Shrackle Box, Progress MFG., Victory Kore Dry, Big Bear Mountain Resorts, Haggen Foods, SurfersVillage.com, XtremeVideo, Planet X TV & Revolt In Style Magazine. The next stop of the RSSS will be July 18 at Ocean Beach Pier.
