Tanner has spent years in the industry working with Ocean Minded, Reef and others
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 10 August, 2015 - Oceanside - Pyzel Surfboards announces the appointment of Bob Tanner to the position of General Manager. Tanner will oversee the company’s day to day business operations, out of the Oceanside, CA office, and will also be responsible for developing, driving and executing key strategic initiatives for the Pyzel brand.
“Bob’s unique combination of sales, marketing and retail experience, was exactly what we were looking for in this newly created position. This, in conjunction with his deep passion for surfboards, will enable us to carry our current momentum into the future and allow the brand to grow in the proper manner, while not losing sight of our core values”, said Jon Pyzel, the company’s Founder.
Prior to joining Pyzel, Tanner has spent the last 15 years in senior marketing and sales roles at Ocean Minded, Reef, and Aaron Chang Clothing. In 2005, he co-founded the Reef Board Build-Off, a unique event that created surfboards with some of the world’s best shapers for the the sake of design, art and charity.
“It’s a bit of a dream-come-true to now be working in a product category that’s so near and dear to my heart, on a daily basis”, said Tanner. “Surfboards are the foundation of our entire industry, and it’s very exciting to be joining a brand that has only just begun to see it’s full potential”.
Jon Pyzel grew up surfing in the historic surfing town of Santa Barbara, CA and made the permanent move to the North Shore of Oahu in 1992. After fixing dings and working as a hot coater, laminator and ghost shaper for some of best labels in the industry, he launched Pyzel Surfboards in 1996.
Since that time, Jon has developed into master craftsman and the attention to detail he puts into every board is something that only decades of experience and a good eye can provide. Team riders John John Florence, Mark Healy, and Nathan Florence (along with countless other world class surfers) continually provide feedback for Jon to refine his skills and board models.
Today, Jon still lives in Hawaii with his wife and 2 daughters, runs the Pyzel Surfboards factory on the North Shore and travels to shape in Europe, Asia, South America and California. He still finds the time surf almost every day.
