Trade swell on tap, possible improvement coming Sunday and Monday

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 10 March, 2016 - The first stop of the 2016 World Surf League (WSL) Samsung Galaxy Championship Tour (CT), the Quiksilver and Roxy Pro Gold Coast presented by BOQ, has been called OFF for the day with only small surf on offer at Snapper Rocks.

“There are a couple of nice waves, but it’s just not quite enough so we are not going to be on for today,” said WSL Deputy Commissioner, Jessi Miley-Dyer. “We are still looking at some good waves in the forecast, and I think tomorrow will be better than what we have now.”
Event organizers will reconvene tomorrow morning at 7am to assess the conditions and make the next call.

Reigning WSL Men’s World Champion Adriano de Souza (BRA) will face Kolohe Andino (USA) and event wildcard Michael Wright (AUS) in Men's Round 1 when competition resumes.

Current Women’s World Champion, Carissa Moore (HAW) will face rookie Chelsea Tuach (BRB) and current WSL World Junior Champ and winner of yesterday’s trials, Isabella Nichols (AUS).

Surfline, official forecaster for the World Surf League, anticipate the following:

We’ve got a high pressure sitting west of New Zealand, which is creating the trade swell. We’re going to have a steady flow of surf that will fluctuate up and down over the next few days. There is a pulse that we are supposed to see lift coming Sunday and Monday. One of the bonuses we have is the south wind, which is making these clean conditions at Snapper Rocks. We will have these kinds of winds for the next couple of days.
