Quiksilver History in Upcoming Book: 'The Mountain & The Wave'

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 25 August, 2006 : - - Huntington Beach, CA - Quiksilver today announced that it will be allowing select media, retailers, and industry VIPs a first look at the much anticipated 320-page, full color book "The Mountain & The Wave, The Quiksilver Story" during the Fall 2006 tradeshows.

This book, which will be sold at Quiksilver Stores and selected retailers beginning November 2006, is the complete, inside-out story, told for the first time, of the company that has defined an industry and a culture...a company that owes its very existence to the two greatest natural playgrounds on earth...the mountain and the wave.

Although this beautifully-produced book will no doubt be on the coffee table, in the bathroom, and under the tree of most boardriders come holiday season, Quiksilver's friends and loyal supporters are invited to view advance copies at an open viewing and meet-the-editor session during the Quiksilver Surf Shop Challenge Presented by Surfer Magazine Finals Party at ASR on September 8 at 5:00 p.m.

Advance copies will also be on display at the upcoming MAGIC and Surf Expo tradeshows.  Members of the media and industry VIPs can contact Quiksilver Media Relations to schedule an appointment at MAGIC or ASR.  Retailers should contact their friendly Quiksilver sales representative.

The Quiksilver Surf Shop Challenge Presented by Surfer Magazine Finals Party will be held at on September 8 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. in a conference room at the San Diego Convention Center. Bob McKnight and other Quiksilver icons will join Phil Jarratt, the editor, for a casual viewing and information session from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. A screening of Dane Reynolds' "First Chapter" will begin at 6:00 p.m.

About the Book: Back in the late 1960s, a young Australian surfer started fooling around with a design for the perfect, functional surf trunk. The trunks (or boardshorts, as they were called in Australia) he made were not perfect, but they were the best yet, and they quickly captured the attention of many of the world's best surfers.

In 1976, two young American surfers brought the brand to the U.S., at first selling imported pairs from the back of a truck as they traveled from beach to beach and from surf shop to surf shop. Within a decade the company was growing so fast its shares were offered to the public. Within another decade, it was the biggest and most successful boardsports company in the world.

The story of Quiksilver is the story of an industry born out of a passion for living free and easy, for enjoying nature's own playgrounds and for creating success on your own terms. It is a story certain to inspire all who ever wanted to follow a dream rather than a routine, and it is a story told here by the people who have lived it, the people who still build their working lives around the surf and the snow.

In addition to collecting the opinions and reminiscences of the Quiksilver pioneers and current managers, surf writer and industry veteran Phil Jarratt has assembled a team of the very best writers, photographers and artists from across the broad spectrum of the boardriding culture to make The Mountain and The Wave the most complete depiction of the surf, snow and skate industry ever presented.
