Micro-groms ready for 4th Wahu Surfer Groms Comp event

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 21 November, 2013 - The Wahu Surfer Groms Comp is set to explode this weekend at Trigg Beach with almost 100 up-and-coming grommets set to take to the surf in this unique event.

The Wahu Surfer Groms Comp series is the only national competition series that fully caters to micro-groms from Under-8 through to Under-14 and has been confirmed for ten events across the country.

The fourth event of the Australia-wide series will take over the Perth metropolitan beaches with plenty of action both in and out of the water, with the opportunity for competitors and spectators to win Wahu prizes in an assortment of beach games to keep the groms stoked.

Each event promotes healthy, outdoor fun through games, surfing and competitions with the main objective to encourage kids to be active, enjoy life and have fun.

The respective winners of the Under-14 Boys' and Girls' divisions from each event will receive an invite to attend an all expenses paid, three-day Wahu Surf Camp at the Hurley Surfing Australia High Performance Centre in northern NSW.

A record number of entrants have registered for this weekend's event, making this the biggest turnout for a Wahu event ever in Western Australia.

“It’s clear that the Wahu Surfer Groms Comps are a big hit for the kids and families,” said Surfing WA events manager Justin Majeks.

“We have heaps of new and excited young surfers set to compete in their very first event and others chasing a chance to improve their skills at the Surfing Australia High Performance Centre.”

A group of talented young surfers from across the state will be looking for success including U14 WA State Junior Team members Josh Cattlin (Yallingup) and Ben Spence (Margaret River).

The two will gain some competition experience before heading to the 2013 Australian Junior Surfing Titles in Kiama, NSW next week. There will also be a host of kids getting their first taste of a surf event, with an under 8’s parent assist division.

Each entrant will receive an awesome Wahu Surfer Groms Comp T-shirt and will go into the running to win daily Wahu beach products.

Small summer conditions will suit a majority of the competitors with competition set to start at Trigg Beach from 7:40am on Saturday with finals set to be held on Sunday.
