It's that time of year again. Reef Hawaiian Pro to kick off Vans Triple Crown

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 7 October, 2013 -  Reef is readying to once again bring the Reef Hawaiian Pro to Haleiwa on the North Shore of Oahu for it's seventh straight year. The first jewel of the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing is sure to set the tone for an action packed winter season with the World's best surfers while highlighting the icons of our sport through the brand's Reef Clash of the Legends signature event.

The Reef Hawaiian Pro, slated for November 12-23 at Alii Beach Park in the town of Haleiwa on the North Shore of Hawaii, is an Association of Surfing Professionals PRIME event, which will have a critical outcome for surfers looking to qualify for the elite 2014 ASP World Tour. The Reef Hawaiian Pro also offers a $250,000 purse.

This event will draw a number of surfers from the ASP World Tour, who will all be vying for a shot at the Triple Crown of Surfing title. Last year, Kauai's Sebastian Zietz's win resulted in the prestigious Triple Crown win, while earning him a spot on the 2013 ASP World Tour.

"The Reef Hawaiian Pro is such a standout event on the ASP calendar. Haleiwa offers a variety of different types of conditions, from two to 20-foot," explains Reef team rider and two-time ASP World Champ, Mick Fanning. "I really enjoy this wave because it is one of the most high performance big waves on the planet. I'm really excited to head back there this year and compete."

Fans can also expect to see former Reef Hawaiian Pro winners Taj Burrow AUS, (2011) Joel Parkinson AUS, (2010) Joel Centeio HAW (2009) and Michel Bourez TAH (2008) in the water.

It is also a chance for Reef Ambassador's to shine with Fanning, current WCT #12 Kai Otton, and 20-year World Tour veteran Taylor Knox all competing for the title. Up and coming Californians Luke Davis and Connor Coffin will also be looking to advance in the ASP ranks at Haleiwa.

In addition, long-time style-guru Rob Machado and big-wave charger, Shane Dorian, both Reef Ambassadors and former ASP Tour surfers, will put their own stamp on this event with insight during the live webcast.
The last several years, Reef has further elevated the excitement of this event with the Clash of the Legends, pitting iconic surfers like Tom Curren, Sunny Garcia, Tom Carroll, and Mark Occhilupo into "Clash of the Legends" heats. This year, Reef is letting the public decide, via, who gets the honor of competing in this prestigious event.

Haleiwa "Town" is a classic, sleepy surf village on the North Shore, known for its colorful town center and boat harbor. Alii Beach Park is considered the first (farthest west) break of the famed Seven-Mile Miracle on the North Shore of Hawaii. The wave can run from ultra high performance to frightening and is ideal on a northwest swell.

As in the past, the Reef Redemption Program will make a considerable donation to the North Shore Community Land Trust.
